Music, sound, and other noise. Welcome to Edition 137
A good day/eve to you all. Shall we?

commerce:
I was shopping online for a wind chime gift (as one will do) when I came across the surprisingly awesome e-commerce website chimes.com. Every chime they sell has audio samples you can play back as you browse. It’s great! Of particular note is this expensive ‘Magical Mystery Space Odyssey’ chime, lol.

listening:
I came across a music project called Channelers this week, recommended from a weekly email I receive from Commend Records here in NY. Channelers has a unique sound that resides somewhere between acoustic guitar, ambient, devotional, and electronic. It is the creative output of Sean Conrad, based in Oakland, CA.
Zoning out to a few hours of algorithmically induced Channelers-adjacent ‘radio’ streaming was a fruitful pursuit. To wit: M. Sage and Francesco Covarino, Dylan Henner, Fuubutsushi, SUSS, Carmen Villain, and XYR.
Thank you Commend. And all you other record stores out there balancing the algorithm with some human decision making.

real life:
On my list for this winter are the Puremagnetik performance series at Hi-Lo records in Industry City. IC may be a giant corporate mall capitalizing on post-industrial ruinporn fetish, but it’s not… the worst place to hear some music?
In addition to the record label and performance series, Puremagnetik makes excellent and inspirational audio plugins.

rest in peace:
Alvin Lucier passed away. He of ‘I am sitting in a room’ fame (famous, at least, to a certain subset of us).
Here is a 1981 Vinyl rip of the piece. [youtube]

input:
This instagram video from Side Brain discusses how to convert a contact mic into a MIDI controller using a few free m4l devices. Cool!
Thanks for reading! Submissions welcome.
